Reviews

This cottage needs a thorough deep clean. There was black mould on the windows, the floor in the bathroom needs replacing, the kitchen sink plughole is rusty and the shower cubicle in the ensuite has black mould around the base. All of these could be rectified by cleaning. In addition, towels and bedding were of a poor standard. On a positive note, the house was well equipped and is in a great location for exploring the Peak District

Mrs G,

Thank you Ruth for allowing us to stay in your beautiful cottage on the occasion of a 60th Birthday; the balloons and banners on the door meant our weekend started the moment we pulled up outside, the flowers and biscuits and milk were such a lovely touch. Ruth you have thought of everything, this beautiful cottage wants for nothing, truly home from home, the very comfortable beds were very welcome at the end of our very busy shopping/eating days out. We were truly spoilt. We will be returning for sure. Our grateful thanks Ruth, we loved it. ... wanted to praise the shower and bath, having completed the 3 Peaks Challenge!!! this weekend, while the rest of us shopped !!

Past Customer,

The cottage was as described in the advert. Owner was welcoming leaving a packet of biscuits, milk & alcohol on our arrival! Clean towels & a flannel provided. Received timely useful instructions prior to our arrival, & prior to our departure! I would definitely use again, & recommend to other potential customers!

Mr F,

The property was nice, but dirty and dust. We have paid a lot of money but it was in total a dirty place.

Mrs Martine D,

Lovely week making memories. Lots of fun and laughter. Visited lots of places and plenty of fresh air.

Family Party,

Great weather, great walks, great pub.

Previous Customer,

This cottage is a very convenient place for visiting the Peak District and exploring the surrounding area. Your “little” black book was very helpful and we found lots of good places to eat from recommendations in it. All in all it has been a very enjoyable week for us. Thank you.

Two c,

We have really enjoyed our break in the Peak District, visited Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth, Matlock, Dovedale and lots of lovely villages. Found some excellent place to eat. The Bull’s Head in the village. The Red Lion in Litton about 10 minutes away. We would highly recommend the Undercroft as a lovely place to stay, we really enjoyed the cottage, it is very cosy especially the log & coal fire. Thankyou would love to return.

Two c,

So lovely to finally get to visit my dear, old friend’s cottage – had a v. Cosy time here. Thankyou.

Previous Customer,

Really lovely stay at Undercroft, thankyou! We enjoyed 3 days of mountain biking across the Peaks, visited Bakewell, took in the views of Chatsworth, went to Castleton and had posh coffee in the café at Eyam. Great time, thankyou!

Two c,

Very good communication from Original Cottages/Derbyshire Cottages. Location great for walks from the doorstep.

Mrs Nancy W,

‘Thankyou’. We have had a fun and splendid time. Lots of walks. Good food. Bueatiful scenery and bike hire was a new experience which we loved. Many thanks for the treats. Lovely. A great holiday. ALSO LOST OUR SHIRTS AT NOTTINGHAM RACES, GREAT DAY OUT THOUGH!’

Past Customer,

Location

FOOLOW AND GREAT HUCKLOW

Foolow and Great Hucklow are peaceful little villages, in the midst of the Peak District National Park and set under the dramatic Great Hucklow Edge. Jumbles of stone cottages make them really picturesque against the backdrop of lovely rolling countryside. The Bull Inn in Foolow and the Queen Anne Inn in Great Hucklow will always give you a warm welcome and Foolow has the added attraction of the lovely village duck pond with its white ducks.

There is lots to do and see in the local area. Just down the lane is Eyam with all its Plague history. As close in the opposite direction is Tideswell with its Cathedral of the Peaks church and High Nelly’s super café – the Welsh Rarebits are to die for! You must also go to the Barrel Inn at Bretton high up on the Edge. – the food is great and the views are just incredible. Save a bit of time to explore Stoney Middleton that has got a great fish and chip shop, the well-known Curry Cottage Indian restaurant and the Moon Inn. The Blind Bull Inn in Little Hucklow is another must with its growing reputation for lovely food.

If you hang up your walking boots and jump in the car there are visitor attractions galore within a 20-minute drive. Castleton has its spooky Blue John caverns. Buxton is famed for its Crescent and Opera House. Bakewell is home to the famous Bakewell Pudding (not a Bakewell Tart). Chatsworth House and Gardens is a majestic stately home. Haddon Hall is more homely and our own favourite. Imagine you are a ‘Dambuster’ practicing dropping the Bouncing Bomb over the Derwent Valley Dams.

Local pubs: The Bull Inn in Foolow. The Queen Anne Inn in Great Hucklow. The Blind Bull in Little Hucklow.
