Description

Sunnylea is a wonderful cottage! Beautifully renovated and furnished, this traditional cottage retains many original features such as exposed stone walls, stone flagged floors, beamed ceilings and original fireplaces.

Set back from the high street in the heart of Tideswell, the cottage's location is excellent. It's but a short walk to the traditional village shops, tea rooms, local pubs and the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’ Church of St John the Baptist. With your walking boots on you might like to wander by the beautiful river Wye in nearby Millers Dale or set out across the wild Peaks on the Limestone Way.

Bakewell with its super shops and market, Buxton with its famous Opera House and spooky Poole's Cavern are a must for everyone. The children will dream of storming Peveril Castle, riding Peak Rail's steam trains and daring each other in Chatsworth's adventure playground.

Please note: there are several changes of level on the ground floor, internal stone steps as well as the narrow carpeted staircase, so the cottage is not really suitable for toddlers or the less mobile.

Pets: Sunnylea will be accepting bookings with one dog from January 2024 onwards.

Cottage facilities:

Ground Floor:

Lounge: with beamed ceiling, wood burning stove set within a traditional stone fireplace, exposed stone walls and stone flagged floor give this room a ‘traditional old cottage’ feel, whilst it is furnished and equipped for modern living, with quality sofas, TV, DVD player and WiFi.

Utility/Cloakroom: with WC, basin, storage and washing machine.

Study: with beamed ceiling and stone flagged floor, desk and chair; one small step up in the centre of the room towards the kitchen.

Steps up through a low doorway and then four stone steps up (with handrail to one side) to the extended rear part of the property:

Kitchen: galley style, with fitted units, electric oven and ceramic hob, microwave, fridge (with small freezer box) and dishwasher.

Dining Room: light and airy, with dining table and chairs, wood burning stove, additional TV and DVD player, door to the rear courtyard garden.

First Floor:

Bedroom 1: with double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Bedroom 2: with two pine single beds, small wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Bathroom: a good sized family bathroom with shower over the bath, separate large shower cubicle, WC and wash basin, shaver point.

Outside: to the rear is a long, terraced courtyard garden (on three levels), with garden furniture; a private haven in the centre of the village, not overlooked.

Parking: on street parking is unrestricted in most parts of the village.

Bed linen and towels are provided. Central heating, electricity and an initial supply of fuel for the stoves are included. Smoking is not permitted.

Reviews

Loved this cottage! Very comfortable, much bigger than expected and fully equipped. One of the best we've stayed at. In great village location.

Mrs S,

Sunnylea is a lovely cottage in an interesting village. The cottage is well equipped and has everything you need for a break. We made some suggestions for improvements in the guest book.

Ms R,

This was our 4th Christmas here lovely cottage with everything we need and right in the centre of the village, we love it, moving the dining room next to the kitchen was a great idea, lovely to have Chritmas lunch there with the wood burner on, hope to return next year

Miss R,

Lovely well equipped cottage with a fabulous quirky layout on the ground floor. Very comfortable and cosy (we had heavy snow). Everything we needed was supplied. Beautifully clean also

Miss Katharine S,

It was a fantastic property to stay in, spacious, comfortable...lovely log fires and perfect location for all restaurants. Everything provided and a perfect getaway...look forward to returning. As an Architect, I loved the attention to detail..all the best!

Mr Francis G,

Location

TIDESWELL

Many people say that Tideswell is the best village in Derbyshire because it really ‘lives.’ Set in glorious Peak District countryside and gathered around the lovely ‘Cathedral of the Peaks’ church, it has lots of little alleyways, lanes, jumbles of cottages and village stores. There is Tindall’s village bakery, a local butcher, a small Coop, post office and two fish and chip shops.

These are complimented by a range of cafes, a classy restaurant and three good pubs – The Star Inn, The George Inn and The Horse and Jockey – all of which have good beer and food. The Merchant’s Yard is a superb restaurant but if you just fancy a snack there are three popular cafes. Our favourite is High Nelly’s which does a Welsh Rarebit to die for!

Country walks go off in all directions, out across the Peaks or down the steep-sided dales cut by sparkling rivers. You might fancy getting to the top of Great Hucklow Edge, where gliders from the local club float by, and just gazing at the amazing views. Or have a wander down Water – Cum – Jolly Dale, which is so, so peaceful that you can virtually hear the silence. Make sure you save an evening for a meal in the Michelin recommended Blind Bull Inn in nearby Little Hucklow.

Local pubs: The Star Inn, The George Inn and the Horse and Jockey in Tideswell.
