Description

Woodside is a spacious Edwardian family house in the sleepy village of Windley, set in a secret little valley. Full of character, there are lime washed walls and some lovely original features. Kids can expend their energy on the trampoline in the garden and everyone can relax in the evening in the 'cinema room' set-up in the lounge.

Sit in the sunny conservatory or the terraced garden as it tumbles into the valley and you could be in the middle of nowhere. Inquisitive sheep will look over the fence and only birdsong will break the silence. Take a walk to the attractive woods nearby, ideal for games with the kids.

Ashbourne is a must with its lovely market square, country stores and many restaurants. Turn the other way and discover Belper with its award-winning high street full of interesting little shops. Matlock is just to the north with all the Peak District attractions in the surrounding hills - Matlock Bath's 'little Switzerland' gorge, Peak Rail's steam trains, magnificent Chatsworth House, picturesque Monsal Dale and the Derwent Valley Dams to name but a few.

DOWNSTAIRS:

Lounge: overlooking the garden with comfortable seating, crackling open fire, Freeview TV, DVD player and WiFi.

Sitting Room: a larger room with views of the garden, sofas, armchairs, stereo system and a 'cinema room' setup with ceiling-mounted projector for use with DVDs or Netflix.

Dining Room with original quarry tiled floor, large table and chairs.

Conservatory: with rattan furniture.

Kitchen: a wonderful traditional room with quarry tiled floor, wood burning stove, breakfast table and chairs, double sink, range cooker, microwave, tall fridge freezer and dishwasher.

Utility Room: with washing machine.

Cloakroom: with WC and basin.

UPSTAIRS:

Four Bedrooms: with traditional bedsteads, décor and furnishings – two double and two twin.

Two Bathrooms: each with roll top bath, shower cubicle, WC and basin, one of these is en suite to the second twin bedroom, but easily accessible to all occupants of the house without going through the bedroom itself.

OUTSIDE:

Extensive, terraced gardens with garden furniture and a trampoline. Parking for several cars.

 

Bed linen and towels are provided.

Oil fired central heating, electricity and an initial supply of fuel for the fire and stove are included.

Pets and smoking are not permitted.

A simply fantastic house in a very peaceful village in Derbyshire. The views from the property are unspoilt and we felt very private. There are lots of nice touches around the house in terms of entertainment for example there is a home theatre projector in the main living room which connects to a proper stereo system for a truly sensational cinematic experience. This was in addition to a large TV in the smaller lounge. An acoustic guitar was also a nice touch. The Tiger Inn just a short walk up the lane was superb with a lovely menu and very friendly staff, highly recommended. We will definetly be back!

The cottage was fabulous and we soon felt at home. We loved the location, original features and furniture, stunning garden and views. The cottage was a little tricky at first for my elderly parents to navigate but by day 3 (sadly our last day) they had worked out where the steps and lumps and bumps were. Other than we would have wished for more garden furniture, we thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and will certainly recommend it to others. The communication from Original Cottages at every step of the booking has been excellent.

Location

BELPER

Belper is a lovely market town that has won market town awards because it is a place that really lives. There is a very attractive high street with lots of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, a great fish and chip shop and even The Ritz little cinema. But there are also supermarkets on the edge of town to provide for all your normal needs.

However, Belper’s real claim to fame is that it is in the UNESCO Derwent Valley World Heritage Corridor, reflecting its Industrial Revolution links, which are evident throughout the town. There is the historic North Mill, lots of historic cottages and cobbled roads, the interesting heritage centre, beautiful Riverside Gardens and even the railway that appears from a tunnel under the town.

Take a day or two exploring all this heritage but remember that there are lots of other attractions nearby, ranging from Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall to Crich’s Tramway Museum, the Midland Railway Centre and Carsington Water. Save some time to go high up into the Peak District with its picturesque valleys, sparkling rivers, spooky caverns, wild moorlands and even the Derwent Valley Dams of ‘Dambusters’ fame where they tested the bouncing bomb.
