Reviews

We had a great stay, but when we had a couple of issues Original Cottages batted us off to the owners/housekeeper with no assistance offered.

Mr M,

We were a family of four adults and three children. The Barn worked very well for us. Everything we needed was provided. We had a couple of small issues which the property manager dealt with very promptly. We did have parking access problems a couple of times but that was caused by inconsiderate parking by car and bike owners on busy sunny days.

Mrs S,

The barn is a perfect location for exploring local walks and properties. Kitchen excellently equipped for self catering. Property spacious and wonderful for a family holiday with 2 showers and toilets. Highly recommend it as home from home stay. Pub close for meals and tea room too.

Mrs D,

The property was well planned and practical, comfortable and pleasant. The location, at the heart of a charming village with a good pub and another restaurant more or less next door and walks from the cottage, could hardly have been better. Our only problem was wasps, which appeared to have a nest above the (unused) front door, from which they had direct access into the living room. It should be possible to do something about this.

Mr Timothy C,

Easy to navigate website, ease of booking

Mr John B,

Loved the barn. Perfect location just over from a lovely village pub. Great walks all around the cottage. Property description - It would have been nice to know what appliances where at the property before hand. Couldn’t use the toaster as it triped the electric every time we tried.

Mrs Lauren S,

In 5 years of staying in cottages for our holidays, this is the best one by far! We have had a lovely time, thank you.

Family g,

A great location for all to meet up in this lovely area and enjoy special family time (something for everyone!). Thank you.

Extended family,

Lovely weekend celebrating our Ruby Anniversary. Good walks. Good meal at the Bull's Head. Brillian accommodation. Thank you!

Carolyn and J,

What a great few days in a really lovely cottage and location. Everything we could have hoped for and more. Thank you!

Family G,

Lovely base for a family gathering and exploring the beautiful local countryside.

8 friends g,

Had a wonderful week - although it rained, we only got wet once! Barn is lovely. Thank you.

Family of 5,

The perfect accommodation and location for our cycling and walking weekend break. The Barn had everything we needed, thank you!

Previous Customer,

Lovely little weekend stay celebrating a 70th birthday! Lovely cottage and village. Fab pub with great food. A fab time had by all!

Past Customer,

A week of walking, eating and visiting places of interest ie Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock, Matlock Bath, Buxton. Very enjoyable stay at the Barn. Recommend Bull's Head for food!! Great beds in Barn - good nights' sleep. Monyash is a beautiful little village steeped in history.

Previous Customer,

A great family holiday - short, slow walks, lots of play - and ending up with Jubilee Celebrations and pub meal in Monyash. A great pram-pushable walk along the Monsal Trail on Thursday.

Previous Customer,

Nice place with pub close by, very nice. Thank you.

Past Customer,

Centrally located for all our trips out and about. Certainly a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. Loved the country aroma in the evenings. All in all a very great stay.

Extended family,

Location

BAKEWELL

Even if you have never been to Derbyshire and the Peak District, we bet you will have heard of Bakewell famed for its Bakewell Puddings made to a secret recipe. Set astride the river Wye, this is the main tourist town in the Peak District with its brilliant Monday market, local and ‘outward bound’ type shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants.

It is great to just wander around the town, sit by the river and feed the ducks, have a Pudding in one of the cafés or some fish and chips from Catch 32 in the high street. It’s just a short drive to magnificent Chatsworth House or the more homely Haddon Hall. Don’t forget to visit Caudwell’s water powered flour mill with its vegetarian café and craft shop or the award-winning Chatsworth Farm Shop.

Bakewell rivals Ashbourne in its claim as the gateway to the Peak District. Go north into the Peak and find lots of picturesque villages to visit, underground caverns to explore, cycle trails to ride and numerous country pubs. You might even venture up onto the high moorlands and perhaps spot one of the white hares on the top of Kinder Scout. Get back in time for a pint or two in Thornbridge Brewery.

Local pubs – The Manners, The Cock and Pullet in Sheldon and The Packhorse Inn in Little Longstone.
