Yew Tree Barn, Longnor

An amazing little barn conversion providing super accommodation in a peaceful Peak District setting close to Longnor village.

Sleeps: 2 (1 bedroom) | Change over day: Friday

Amazing, unique, quirky and delightful are just some of the words that came to mind when I first saw Yew Tree Barn. Standing proud in the shade of the magnificent Yew Tree this is an incredible 'quart into a pint pot' little cottage created to a very high standard out of a mellow stone barn. A comfortable little lounge, quality kitchen and shower room and the incredible mezzanine bed make this an amazing place.

In the upper reaches of the Manifold Valley the barn stands in a jumble of cottages close to the brook as it splashes through the fantastic Peak District countryside. Walks go off in all directions through this beautiful landscape but pretty Longnor with its village shop, tea rooms, pubs, craft centre and even a fish and chip shop is only a mile away so you have the best of all worlds.

The best gets even better when you know that Leek with its splendid Victorian buildings, cobbled streets and mill shops is only a few miles away. So is historic Buxton with its famous Opera House, Pavilion Gardens, Cavendish Dome and lots of country town stores. The best of the best is incredibly simple - a glass of wine on the barn's patio gazing at the evening view down the valley.

Cottage facilities:

A attractive little lounge with comfortable sofa, dining table and chairs, flat screen T.V. DVD and views over the surrounding countryside. There is no T.V. reception at the barn but lots of DVDs are provided. A quality fitted kitchen with Belfast sink, hob, oven, fridge and similar views. A platform double bed, with crisp linen, above the lounge. A modern shower room with fluffy towels and W.C.
Linen and towels are provided. Heating and power are included. There is an attractive patio with furniture and fantastic views down the valley. Parking for one car is available and there are lots of other spaces along the quiet lane. A small pet is allowed by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted. Access for people with disabilities may be difficult due to the bed and the steep stairs.

Weekly bookings are normally Friday to Friday but short breaks are available throughout the year excluding Xmas & New Year.

Nearest pub  -  Longnor  1.2 miles.  Nearest village shop  -  Longnor  1.2 miles.  Nearest supermarket  -  Buxton  6 miles.

Visitor's Comments

"We went on three walks over the weekend, two from the house and one from Herdlow. The Manifold Trail isn't particularly well trodden or marked - we enjoyed clambering through neck high bracken. There are a lot of new born calves at this time of year - they have adorably gormless faces. This area also appears to be a donkey hotspot. Who knew? Hartington cheese shop and church were highlights of Hartington. There is a black and white dog who lives in a garden by the church who delights in barking at visitors. Good for him! We have enjoyed staying here and having time away from phone signal, internet and just hanging out."

"Thank you for the wine and biscuits. Yew Tree Barn is a lovely tranquil place - great location. I loved the idea of no TV, no Wifi, completely away from it all. Sat listening to the radio and enjoying my husband's time to chat without mobile going. Back to the daughter's before we move to our narrowboat and cruise the canals. Thank you."

"Thank you for perfect venue for my boyfriend's birthday weekend. Sunny Friday, rode from Hurdlow on the High Peak Trail to Carsington Water to Tissington Trail and back - long, long way but beautiful. Snowy Saturday - walked from Longnor to Chrome hill (walk in book) again beautiful, especially in the snow. Great being out of signal and no TV. enjoyed Peter Kay videos. Thank you. It's a truly peaceful place, good for the soul."

"I will remember drinking cups of tea and glasses of wine sitting on the bench in front of the barn. This cottage does exactly what it says on the tin and takes you a long way from your everyday life. I enjoyed every moment."

"The cutest little place ever! Perfect for our mini moon, we have loved staying here in the beautiful peaceful surroundings. We got married on Saturday and have spent the last couple of days reminiscing about our special day and couldn’t have asked for a better place to do it. Thank you so much."

"Such a cosy little place. We have loved every moment. It reminded us of what you need in life – no wi-fi, phone and we’ve had more time to explore. Slightly over capacity with 1 adult, 2 children and a whippet we’ve managed fine – fortunately the dog is thin. Children loved the stream and I loved the view and quiet."

"We have enjoyed some fantastic days and nights here in this unique little cottage. Lovely views, happy birdsong in the mornings and so close to great hikes – The Roaches, Lud’s Church and Parkhouse/Chrome hills. Looking forward to trying your new cottage next time."

"Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage! We have had a lovely week here, glad to get away from the hustle and bustle of work... and we only had one day of rain!! It was nice visiting all the local area’s and the dog loved it too. Hopefully see you again – to try the other cottage once finished. Thanks"

"What a great place! Loved being away from it all – no T.V., no Wi-Fi, lovely. Had a good walk on the first day towards Newtown and back on a circular route. Alas the weather didn’t encourage any more big walks – worst weekend for wind and rain so far this year! But we found things to do in Leek and really enjoyed just being indoors listening to’ Storm Imogen’ outside. Love the ‘bunk bed’ Thanks for a lovely stay."

"Our stay has been magical and your cottage is enchanting. It is truly a wonderful place to find peace and quite. We thank you for the wine and crackers. The detail and design of the cottage is perfect and adds a dash of mystery to the stay with all the little hidy holes and attention to detail with the little things.Only thing I would add is bird feeders round the back. So when sat you can admire the wildlife. The best part of our week was falling asleep listening to the owls. See you again for sure."
