The Lookout is an utterly wonderful house clinging to the side of the Derwent Valley with what must be some of the best views in the Peak District. Matlock down in the valley has lots of country town shops, a really good range of restaurants and pubs galore. You might never want to leave the local area but if you stray further afield then how about nearby Matlock Bath with its riverside prom, Carsington Water's wild water sports, a tuppenny ride at Crich's Tramway Museum or just a wander along leafy Cromford Canal in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Corridor.
Peak Rail's steam trains will take you up the valley and in to the Peak District. With these wider horizons you might fancy a trip to magnificent Chatsworth House, romantic Haddon Hall, Bakewell's famous Monday market, Victorian Buxton with its fantastic Opera House or even Bess of Hardwick's lovely Hall. Wherever you wander make sure you are back in time for a glass of wine on the patio while you just marvel at the views.
