Maltsters Cottage is a beautiful little cottage, in the old Matlock conservation area, set adjacent to the Bentley Brook which splashes its way down the hillside into Matlock. Originally part of the malt store for the local mill, the cottage has been renovated recently to provide really comfortable accommodation. Every room is lovely but the farmhouse style kitchen, with its units, tiles and pine table, tops the lot !
It's a two minute level stroll into Matlock Green for your morning paper. Walks from the cottage can take you through Starkholmes' interesting conservation area, along Lumsdale's 'industrial revolution' valley or high up on Riber hillside for breathtaking views over the Peak District hills. Have an evening glass on the patio before walking through the riverside park to the Stones bistro for a fantastic meal.
Stones is worth a block booking for the whole week but here are a few alternative suggestions. Collect a super packed lunch from the Deli in Darley Dale before a trip to Haddon Hall and Lathkill Dale. Stop off at Rowley's restaurant in Baslow on the way to Castleton's caverns. Call at the Devonshire Arms in Beeley for a great evening meal after visiting Chatsworth House and Bakewell.
A cosy lounge with really comfortable furniture, attractive decoration, T.V., DVD, Wi Fi and coal effect gas fire in the old stone fireplace. A superb dining kitchen with quality fitted units, hob, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and automatic washer. An attractive double bedroom with mellow pine furniture. A similar single bedroom. A lovely tiled bathroom with bath/shower over and W.C.
Linen and towels are provided. Central heating, fuel and power are included. A cot and high chair can be requested. There is an attractive little patio in front of the cottage and a further garden area across the brook. Parking is available on the quiet residential road opposite. Alternative free parking can be arranged close to the cottage - please ask for details. Pets and smoking are not permitted. Access for people with disabilities may be difficult.
Weekly bookings are normally Saturday to Saturday but short breaks are available throughout the year excluding Xmas and New Year. Bookings for Christmas and New Year are from Tuesday to Tuesday.
Nearest pub - Starkholmes 400 yds. Nearest village shop - Matlock Green 200 yds. Nearest supermarket - Matlock 0.75 miles.
