Description

Forget-Me-Not Cottage is a fantastic traditional stone cottage on a quiet lane in the picturesque village of Tideswell with lovely décor and soft furnishings, stripped pine doors and floors, sumptuous furniture, super kitchen, sunny dining conservatory and a glowing log burning stove to top the lot!  

The cottage is only matched by Tideswell itself, which is one of Derbyshire's best villages. Wander through the jumbles of cottages past proper village shops until you find the beautiful 'Cathedral of the Peak'. Take a tranquil walk down to scenic Water-cum-Jolly Dale. Get back in time for takeaway fish and chips or a meal in one of the village pubs.  

This is the very heart of the Peak District with its fantastic landscapes but there are also lots of other things to see and do. Victorian Buxton with its magnificent Crescent and Opera House is great. Castleton with its spooky Blue John caverns and Peveril Castle is unique. Chatsworth House and gardens and nearby Haddon Hall are just simply amazing. 

INSIDE THE PROPERTY:

Lounge: with beamed ceiling, comfortable seating, glowing log burning stove, Freeview TV, DVD player and WiFi.

Kitchen: with beamed ceiling and stripped pine floor, electric oven, induction hob, microwave and fridge. From the kitchen, a door (bolted for safety) leads down steep stone steps to the Cellar, which houses a freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Dining Conservatory: with dining table and chairs.

First Floor:

Bedroom 1: has a double bed with traditional brass bedstead and antique bedroom suite.

Bedroom 2: with full size bunk beds.

Family Bathroom: with shower over the bath, WC and basin. 

OUTSIDE:

There is a sunny, secluded patio with garden furniture at the top of the steeply terraced rear garden (steep stone steps with handrail) and a smaller patio with bistro set for two part way up. The private lockable side entrance can be used to store bikes.

Parking is on the quiet lane outside the cottage – on the opposite side of the narrow lane only, please.

 

Bed linen and towels are provided.

Central heating, electricity and an initial supply of logs for the stove are included.

One pet is welcome.

Smoking is not permitted.

Nearest pub - Tideswell 150 yds.  Nearest village shop - Tideswell 300 yds.  Nearest supermarket ? Tideswell 400 yds.

Very nice and cosy cottage, and location couldn’t have been better. The owner was helpful, when we needed an electrician they were there within an hour. Could walk to nearest pub in less than a minute, always a bonus. There were only two downsides, the hoover wasn’t very good and made the place smell of dogs, and there were no doors downstairs. I assume there couldn’t have been a one into the lounge because of a step, into the conservatory a sliding door would be good. Our dog sleeps downstairs at home, so if your dog sleeps upstairs it’s not an issue. They are the only moans, but apart from that it was perfect for us, and we will hopefully be back next year.

Forget me not cottage was lovely place to stay; located right in the village; we parked v close. Tiny garden just fine for our mini schnauzer. Lots of hot water for showers and side entrance very useful to dry dog off and remove muddy boots and hand jackets etc. Comfy sofa and chairs too.

The cottage was well equipped, especially with kitchen utensils and the information folder was thorough. Also, the TV / DVD were easy to use and being able to access catch up programmes through BBCi player etc. meant we had more choice than at previous cottages.

The cottage was very well equipped with everything you could need, it was comfortable and in a lovely quiet location. The enclosed garden was ideal for our dog. The village of Tideswell was lovely and had several good pubs and cafes all within easy reach. I would definitely book again at this cottage.

Tideswell

Tideswell is one of the best villages in the Peak District because it really lives. Gathered around the ‘Cathedral of the Peaks’ church, it is a proper community with three great pubs, three cafes, a classy restaurant, village bakers and butchers, small Co-op supermarket and even two fish and chip shops. Our real favourite is the Welsh Rarebit in High Nelly’s café.

Walks radiate out from the village into the lovely Peak District countryside but what about jumping in the car to explore the Plague village of Eyam before climbing to the top of Great Hucklow Edge, where the Barrel Inn at Bretton will give you a wonderful welcome with its great food, beer and amazing views. Alternatively, set off from the Anglers Rest in Millers Dale following the footpath by the river until you get to leafy Water-cum-Jolly Dale, where only birdsong breaks the silence.

Chatsworth, Bakewell and the other well-known visitor attractions in the Peak District are close by and so is Victorian Buxton. The incredible Victorian Crescent, now a five-star hotel is not to be missed. The wonderfully restored Opera House that has shows to suit all tastes is another must. Go and experience the ‘Wisper’ in the Devonshire Dome. The lovely Pavilion Gardens create a peaceful backdrop. And make sure you visit the spooky Poole’s Cavern.
