Reviews

Exceptionally clean and well equipped. However the small, private garden was overgrown and lack a gate to prevent access to a small but fast road. Message from the Owner: Thank you for your feedback. The small garden area has now been enclosed for the benefit if guests, particularly those with pets.

Mrs M,

A wonderful stay in a very comfortable cottage. Enjoyed all there is to do around the area. Thanks so much for the goodies on our arrival, very kind and thoughtful.

Previous Customer,

Very nice relaxing week with excellent weather. Lots of lovely walks and Bakewell Tart. Comfortable cottage with everything we needed.

Previous Customer,

Lovely cottage everything we needed was here. Very nice area with plenty to see. The honey and flapjack were a very nice touch.

Previous Customer,

I really enjoyed my stay here with [goldendoodle]. Nice touch with the welcome flapjack on arrival, was really delicious and the honey. Thank you. Everything works really well, easy to use and even the knives were really sharp. Great spot for dog walking with the Linacre reservoirs. My only criticism would be that I wasn't told where I could recycle my rubbish so ended up putting it all in one bag. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

Previous Customer,

Many thanks for making our visit so comfortable and enjoyable. It is a lovely cottage, well equipped and has everything we could wish for. The honey and flapjacks were a lovely and delicious surprise and very much appreciated. This week we have had some wonderful walks in the beautiful countryside. We will put the word out and hope to be back soon.

Previous Customer,

Enjoyed our stay very much. Very well equipped comfy bed but would have preffered a small settee to the chairs provided.

Mr Ian M,

Location

CHESTERFIELD

Chesterfield is a great place in which to base your holiday, being on the edge of the Peak District National Park but also close to the Dukeries in Nottinghamshire, with their links to Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest and much, much more. The town has a lovely cobbled market square, the Crooked Spire Church, lots of independent and the usual high street shops, supermarkets, a multiplex cinema and a few nightclubs as well.

A 15-minute drive will get you to Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakewell’s famous Monday market and then off into the real Peak District, with its beautiful valleys, sparkling rivers, picturesque villages, with many a country pub and countryside walks galore. Caudwell’s Mill in Rowsley is just a little place but one of our favourite stops, with its ducks on the river, vegetarian café, craft workshops and, of course, the old water powered flour mill.

Look the other way towards Nottinghamshire and there is just as much to see and do. Bolsover Castle stands proud on its ramparts, peaceful Clumber Park is worth a visit, Hardwick Hall is not to be missed, pretend you are Robin Hood at the Major Oak or, if you are into heritage railways, there is the famous Barrow Hill Roundhouse.

Local pubs - The Lamb Inn in Holymoorside, the Bulls Head in Holymoorside and the Red Lion at Stonedge.
