Reviews

Small but well equipped and cosy. Suited me and the dog well. Nice welcome pack of milk and chocolate. Easy self check in and good instructions to find the potting shed.

Mrs M,

A really nicely situated bijou place to stay and keep warm, having good local pubs if you don't want to cook!! Stunning views across Dovedale. We will return!!

Mr T,

A well presented and maintained cottage ideal for a couple on a short stay basis. Close to a steep hill so take care when pulling in or out. Helpful owners.

Dr S,

Small but well thought about , great secure garden, parking and lovely location.

Mr R,

A very small but compact and well equipped cottage in the beautiful countryside with some amazing views. We received a welcome pack on arrival which was most thoughtful and welcome. I always take a supply of hand wash, cling film, fairy liquid, foil etc etc and toiletries but all of this was provided. There were a variety of pubs and eateries, the closest of these being a five minute stroll down the hill, The Pack Horse. The food there was good and reasonably priced so too was the drinks. We also ate at the Cheshire Cheese in Longnor and here too both the food and drinks were good and reasonably priced. There's lots of wonderful places to visit in the area and we enjoyed the lovely Peak district scenery. The owners were available for any queries but left us in privacy.

Mrs K,

I thought the cottage, although small, was very comfortablle, cosy and welcoming with glorious views.

Mr H,

The Potting Shed was a cosy little place to stay in a lovely part of the world. I loved the fact that the crockery in the property was all made by the cottage owner, who runs a pottery on site. The view from The Potting Shed is beautiful and we did some good walks straight from the door. We really enjoyed eating at The Packhorse Pub, which is very friendly, does excellent home-cooked food and was a mere five-minute walk away.

Mrs K,

Quite a bit smaller than we imagined and we had to be very organised with our belongings in order to be comfortable for the week. That said the backdrop and garden were a delight many birds visited and the view just stunning at the front of the property. The local pub was just delightful, with amazing food. Visiting in the winter was a little problematic as despite there being a dehumidifier in situ the condensation was constant, especially in the little shower room where the wall behind the toilet was soaking wet and peeling .The underfloor heating was a lovely bonus and the bed extremely comfortable. I would recommend the Potting Shed for a short stay

Mrs K,

Small but perfectly formed, ideal romantic getaway! The scenery was amazing! We had to cancel some of our stay due to snow but was fine- can't be helped! Cottage had everything we needed for our stay, warm and cosy on return from our outings. Would recommend.

Ms F,

Location

LONGNOR AND CROWDECOTE

There is something almost magical as you drive over the edge of the valley and gaze at the wonderful views along Dove Dale. Crowdecote, with the well-known Packhorse Inn, is a sleepy little hamlet in the bottom of the dale. Longnor, standing proud on the ridge between Dove Dale and Manifold Dale, is a picturesque village gathered around its cobbled square, with its own fish and chip shop, café and Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese pub.

This is breath-taking Peak District scenery, with wonderful walks in all directions and many of the Peak’s visitor attractions within easy reach. The famous market town of Bakewell is about a 15-minute drive, as is majestic Chatsworth House and more homely Haddon Hall. Monsal Dale with the Monsal Trail and amazing viaduct is not to be missed. The great gritstone edges above Baslow, Calver, Eyam and Great Hucklow provide views of wave after wave of Peak District hills.

Buxton is the nearest main town, with its colourful main street and market square. At its centre is the newly restored Victorian Crescent, now a five-star hotel, which sits close to the beautiful Pavilion Gardens. The wonderful Opera House is not to be missed with its amazing interior and shows to satisfy everyone’s tastes. Don’t forget to go to the Devonshire Dome, once the largest unsupported dome in the world, and listen to the ‘whisper’. Now part of the university, it was originally built as the Duke of Devonshire’s stables.

Local pubs - The Pack Horse Inn in Crowdecote, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese in Longnor and the Royal Oak close to Monyash.
