Description

Step back in time in this impressive Grade II listed house, still retaining many of its original 17th century features and furnishings but with appropriate concessions to modern-day living. Elton House has been in the owner’s family for centuries! Just think beamed ceilings, stone flagged floors, shuttered windows, oak doors and panelling, four poster beds, an open fires and a log burning stove. Then add sumptuous sofas, beautiful soft furnishings, dark oak furniture and the more modern aspects – a fitted kitchen and three super bathrooms. It’s just wonderful!

The house sits in its own lawned garden with covered patio area on the former farm, where the owner keeps horses. Stabling may also be available, by arrangement, for guests who might be interested in bringing their horse on holiday too; please enquire.

Reviews

Excellent farmhouse with a real history. Great location for Matlock, Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth House and Hardwick etc. The welcome pack was above expectation and our thanks goes for a great family holiday. Highly recommended.

Mr M,

The property is spacious, comfortable and very well equipped with a good broadband signal and modern smart TV. The host was warm & welcoming and had us settled in no-time-at-all. All rooms were cleaned to a high standard and the beds proved very comfortable. The property location is ideal for visits to Bakewell, Matlock and Chatsworth House, and as a manageable base for walks in the Derwent Valley. We had a very relaxing stay and heartily recommend this property as an ideal residence for large families or groups of friends

Mr W,

Much to celebrate about the house. Our host was excellent and we loved the box of goodies with a lovely welcoming fire when we arrived. The location is great for short or longer walks and perfect for dog owners. We will be back!

Mr R,

A fabulous property in a perfect location. Elton house has lots of original features and amazing private secure garden. The owners were so helpful and friendly. 5 stars would not be enough.

Mr S,

The holiday cottage met and exceeded expectations , the location was superb and the owner was very friendly and helpful. Booking and other arrangements were trouble free with plenty of information on the cottage , location and directions. Really enjoyed the time in the cottage and in the village of Eton - would like to return again.

Mr Graham C,

Really lovely location and property.

Mrs Sue J,

A lovely spacious cottage. Well appointed bedrooms with comfortable beds. Standards of cleanliness excellent. We had a wonderful Easter break here. Jeremy was very welcoming and friendly. The village pub, albeit small with limited opening hours, was a great fun place to be. Anthony the landlord taught us how to play dominoes and the locals were very friendly too.

Previous Customer,

Previous Customer,

Thanks to Jeremy and Pauline for a wonderful stay in their lovely cottage. We have sitting around in the snug by the roaring fire putting the world to rights. We had a fabulous Sunday lunch in the dining room and played board games in the living room. Our dog enjoyed the garden and the many fantastic walks we went on both from Elton and further afield. Thank you for the wonderful Welcome Pack and all the bits such as bin liners etc which meant we didn't have to spend our holiday in the supermarket! PS The Fish & Chip van on a Thursday **** Some of the best F&Cs we have ever had.

Previous Customer,

Lovely house. Just right for our 4 generations. Look forward to coming back. Restaurant - Stones, Matlock, lunch for 3rd Anniversary celebration - highly recommended. Added bonus of seeing the horses each day.

Family G,

What a fantastic house, comfy, homely and quirky!! We had a brilliant time teak building and celebrating 15 years of Domestic Bliss. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Group of Friends,

Is this the best Derbyshire/UK cottage? Yes!! Unanimous. The renovations were beautiful. The Porsche toilet roll holder, baths & showers & the BIG table. We started at the swimming place in Youlgreave and did short walks from Elton. Thank you Pauline and Jeremy for a memorable Golden Wedding Weekend.

Family G,

Location

ELTON

Elton is a peaceful village high on the hillside above the Derwent Valley and surrounded by lovely rolling countryside. Walks go off in all directions. How about wandering down to Robin Hood’s Stride with its super views and great climbing. Gratton Dale is a wonderful peaceful valley where only bird song breaks the silence. Rowtor Rocks, Cratcliffe Rocks, the Druid’s Cave and the Nine Ladies Stone Circle are also there to explore.

The Limestone Way long distance footpath will take you further into the Peak District, where you will find Chatsworth House and Gardens, Haddon Hall, the market town of Bakewell, picturesque little villages like Ashford-in–the Water, Eyam with its Plague history and lovely Tideswell. You might also fancy visiting the Derwent Valley Dams where the Dambusters practiced with the bouncing bomb.

Some of our real favourites are a visit to Caudwell Mill’s water powered flour mill and craft centre, the Top Gallery with lots of lovely pictures, paintings and sculptures, Calver Edge with heart stopping views across the Peak District hills, Castleton’s spooky Blue John Caverns and a wander down Water-cum-Jolly Dale where you can share the peace and quiet with the ducks.

Local pubs – The Duke of York if it is open, the Bowling Green in Winster and the Red Lion in Birchover.
