Description

Pipistrelle Barn is utterly wonderful. Created out of a mellow stone barn it is a super little hideaway for a leisurely and perhaps romantic stay in beautiful Derbyshire. It is set in an incredibly peaceful location in a secret little valley just down from the centre of picturesque Kniveton. Sit on the patio and only birdsong disturbs the silence! A short stroll along the lane will get you to the local village pub.  Super walks are all around and all Derbyshire's holiday attractions are close at hand.

The local town of Ashbourne is a must with its lovely market square, country stores, antique shops, art galleries and restaurants. Nearby historic Wirksworth also has lots of individual shops, heritage trail and brilliant Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. Farther afield you will find Chatsworth House and Gardens, Carsington with all its watersports, and many picturesque walks and cycle routes.

Entrance takes you in to the kitchen of the property, on ground floor level, then stairs from the sitting room lead down to the lower ground floor.

Reviews

Well situated for supermarkets in easy reach in Ashbourne, local pub, nice outdoor space ,and friendly helpful owners great amenities.

Mr O,

Great cottage, great location and very clean and well presented.

Mrs W,

A beautiful, well equipped hideaway! Pipistrelle Barn has everything you need for a week away. It is superbly fitted out, immaculately clean and comfortable. Terry, the owner, was really friendly and had left a welcome bottle of Prosecco and mince pies. I cannot fault it.

Miss B,

I would 100% recommend this cottage. Perfect for a couple and it’s dog friendly. Great location, super quiet and peaceful and has everything you need for a relaxing stay!!

Mrs N,

Pipistrelle Barn was everything we expected and more, fine furnishings throughout and was always lovely and warm…too warm until we tweaked the thermostat. Just a short walk along the very quiet lane to a nice homely pub the Red Lion and not far from the main towns for our days out. If you have a dog there is a footpath at rear of property over open field or just stroll along the lane where you rarely came across traffic. Would definitely recommend and won’t hesitate to book again.

Mr H,

Superb accommodation in a perfect location to explore the peaks. So relaxing and peaceful but close enough to Ashbourne for all amenities. Would definitely recommend and will visit again.

Mr L,

The cottage was fantastic, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The barn has been converted to a high standard. the owner was very welcoming and helpful. We would definitely revisit.

Mrs B,

Excellent cottage in perfect position. Would certainly recommend.

Mrs F,

Perfect accommodation for a couple with a small dog, everything you would require to make your stay comfortable was supplied, from kitchen utensils to a nearby field for the dog to run in. The accommodation was in pristine condition with a modern feel to all the furniture and fittings, very comfortable and ideally located with a nearby pub that serves good food and selection of beers.

Mr P,

We absolutely loved this cottage! It looks so welcoming from the front! Has everything we needed and so beautifully furnished encompassing its history & that of the town. Lots to visit locally & a super steak at the Red Lion! Terry was so friendly & helpful too! Thank you for a fab stay! Gael, Mike & puppy Florence

Mrs H,

An absolute gem, beautifully furnished throughout with every need catered for. A perfect location for exploring the wider area and a great host. We will definitely be returning.

Mr M,

Great location and lovely cottage

Mr M,

We had a wonderful 4 night stay here, the cottage itself was gorgeous and loved all the quirky touches and the surroundings were absolutely beautiful! Would definitely recommend and would book again.

Mrs S,

A really lovely property.

Mr B,

Very nice cottage. Well appointed and owner very friendly and helpful

Mrs W,

A well appointed cottage with lots of extra touches ( a box of dog biscuits ) Warm, comfortable and welcoming. The location was perfect with a good footpath past the door for dog walking . We really enjoyed our stay

Mrs M,

This is a gem of a property. The decor and quality is fabulous and the location ideal for visiting so many of the beautiful places in Derbyshire. The owner is warm, friendly and welcoming and was quick to sort the problem of the sticking entrance door due to the recent wet weather. We would not hesitate to recommend this property and are already looking to when we can return - hopefully when the weather has been a little drier!

Mrs K,

A lovely cosy cottage in a quiet area, good quality furniture and furnishings, every kitchen appliance I needed, lots of Christmas decorations up which was a nice touch as were the bottle of champagne and box of shortbread. The wifi was excellent but note that there's normally no phone signal in the cottage - a short walk up the path from the cottage is apparently OK. The friendly host came and welcomed me and was nearby in case of need. Would definitely stay here again.

Mrs K,

Location

KNIVETON

Kniveton is a picturesque village in the rolling countryside between Matlock and Ashbourne. The very popular Red Lion pub is at its heart and quiet little lanes lead off from through jumbles of pretty cottages out into the fields and valleys beyond. The Bubble Inn on the edge of the village is a very friendly gastro pub that is also worth a visit or two.

Ashbourne is the nearest main town gathered around the Victorian market square. Think lots of designer clothes shops, antique emporiums, restaurants and pubs gathered around the centre and in the surrounding streets. Known locally as the ‘Gateway to the Peaks’ it is close to famous Dove Dale with its stepping stones across the river and the Lovers Leap as well as Thorpe Cloud with its magnificent views. Another must visit is Paradise Walk by the side of the river Manifold from the picturesque village of Ilam.

You might also fancy walking or cycling from the centre of the town along the Tissington Trail up into the Peaks. Carsington Water with its wild water sports, birdwatching, cycle trail and visitor centre is also close by. And a short drive will soon get you to Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Chatsworth, and then into the heart of the National Park. It is not far to Alton Towers as well!

Local pubs: The Red Lion and The Bubble Inn in Kniveton. The Red Lion in Hognaston.
