Description

Rose Cottage is a beautifully presented traditional Derbyshire stone cottage in the midst of the popular village of Youlgreave - a brilliant base from which to explore the 'Peaks'. It's a 'real' village with a lovely church, proper village stores and three great pubs all just a stagger away. You can also enjoy a stroll down Bradford Dale, spotting the kingfishers and dippers in the river, and all the other incredible walks around the village.

There are innumerable other things to do and see nearby.  Wonderful Chatsworth House, lovely Haddon Hall and super Bakewell are all within a few miles. Or perhaps make it a day out cycling along the High Peak Trail, splashing about in Carsington Water, riding Peak Rail's steam trains, absorbing the many aspects of the Crich Tramway museum and village or indulging in some motor car nostalgia at the Great British Car Journey in Ambergate.

Ground Floor:

Lounge: with Chesterfield sofa, two easy chairs, traditional rocking chair, wood burning stove (initial basket of logs provided), TV, DVD player, DAB radio/CD/bluetooth and WiFi.

Kitchen Diner: fully equipped, with oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge freezer, slim dishwasher and washer/dryer; drop-leaf table and four chairs.

First Floor:

Bedroom 1: a double bedroom with brass bedstead and beautiful furnishings.

Bedroom 2: with twin beds, again with cast iron/brass bedsteads; sloping ceilings with some limited headroom.

Family bathroom: with shower over the bath, basin and WC.

Outside: there is a lovely garden with garden furniture about 10 yards from the back door across a shared rear yard. Small gated courtyard to the front with bench.

Parking: on the road outside the cottage and on the other lanes in the village.

A cot, highchair and stairgate can be requested.

Reviews

Cosy cottage right in the middle of Youlgrave. We travelled with a 4 and 6 year old. The cottage was perfect for us. It was well equipped with comfortable beds and a modern kitchen. The location was excellent with pubs, shops in the village. There was a large park for the children and lots of lovely walks from the house, or a short drive away.

Dr W,

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the location was excellent to explore The Peak District. Very efficient heating meant that that house was warm and cosy. The village has all the amenities you may need with excellent food provided by the local hotel. Would recommend.

Mr P,

The cottage was in a great location for exploring the areas we wanted to visit. The bed was extremely comfortable and we enjoyed our 5 night stay. The welcome lemon drizzle cake was very lovely. As a couple, the cottage was a good size for a short break. Just a couple of things that could be improved - no initial logs provided for wood burner as outlined in details, shower was temperamental re temp and water flow (just used bath instead) and parking over the Bank Holiday weekend was an issue.

Mrs W,

The cottage was very cosy and gave the impression of being very well looked after. It was very clean and well equipped. The kitchen in particular had everything you could want. Location wise it was perfect, close to pubs and walking without having to use a car. Clear and frequent information before arrival was excellent. Had a lovely stay, just wish it had been longer.

Mrs Jo S,

A lovely characterful cottage in a great location, with very useful books on local walks etc. Very low ceiling on the stairs, so take care! Garden was nice for an evening drink, though it isn't directly outside the back door. Clear information on recycling/ rubbish and the cooker would be useful, details were provided on the hob but not the oven. One bedside light didn't work, but not an issue, as there were only 3 of us.

Ms Liz W,

The location was perfect with choice of 3 pubs depending on personal choice and budget. Bulls Head was our preference you need to book fantastic food and service. The only improvement we would suggest is a Smart TV as channels limited with interference so if its a cold wet night you could watch a film of choice.

Mrs Elizabeth H,

This cottage was amazing. It was so well kitted out compared to most holiday cottages whilst keeping the feel of the cottage. The only issue was parking but that comes with being in a small village. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Mrs M,

The cottage was really well presented and very thoughtfully equipped which we really appreciated. However the shower did not really work as could not keep a consistent temperature. It was either scalding hot or freezing cold and seemed to swing between the two without any middle ground. The corkscrew was broken and there was not a bottle opener at the property - we purchased one at the local shop and left for future occupants whilst you may consider a replacement. Also the lightbulb in the fridge no longer worked. Otherwise a lovely cottage in a great area.

Mrs Karen F,

Location

YOULGREAVE

The beautiful village of Youlgreave stands high above Bradford Dale and Lathkill Dale with the clear, sparkling rivers running through the valleys below.  The wide banks of the River Bradford are a perfect spot for a picnic.  Or walk south-east to the gritstone outcrop of Robin Hood’s Stride and on to Stanton Moor, a designated Scheduled Ancient Monument featuring more than 70 barrows and 4 stone circles, the best known of which is Nine Ladies.  Youlgreave is truly situated in an ancient landscape.  Three miles west of the village is Arbor Low, one of the largest Neolithic henges in England.

Today, Youlgreave is a bustling, popular village with a range of shops, cafes, a post office and pubs.

Nearby is Bakewell, the main tourist town of the Peak District with its Bakewell Puddings made to a secret recipe.  It’s also just a short drive to magnificent Chatsworth House or the more homely Haddon Hall. Don’t forget to visit Caudwell’s water powered flour mill with its vegetarian café and craft shop or the award-winning Chatsworth Farm Shop.

Local Pubs: The Bulls Head, Youlgreave.  The Farmyard Inn, Youlgreave
