Reviews

Enjoyable stay but no welcome pack ! A pint of milk would have been nice

Mr M,

A lovely place to stay!!

Mr C,

Lovely, comfortable cottage and we were made to feel very welcome.

Mrs L,

I spent a wonderful 5 nights at 'Swallows Nest'. It was the perfect base for exploring the Peak District. The owner welcomed me and the moment I stepped into the property I felt at home. It was cosy & clean. It's very comfortable, well equipped and so tranquil. The only sound you can hear is birdsong, the owner left me some seeds for the bird table. It was a joy to sit in the recliner and watch the birds and a squirrel too! Highly recommend Swallows Nest for a relaxing break!

Mrs L,

Excellent cottage. Very comfortable and warm. The owner very helpful when we had puncture. Highly recommend.

Mr W,

Lovely clean bright cottage with the added touch of visits from local wild life.

Mrs H,

A fabulous little cottage with everything you could need. Very comfortable and warm. Locality is great for exploring the peak district.

Mrs R,

Very cosy, well equipped cottage, ideally located for walks. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. Two pubs in the village both serving good food.

Mr N,

We expected Swallow's Nest to be good, but it exceeded our expectations! Beautifully presented property in a lovely setting. We will definitely be back. Many thanks.

Mrs G,

Swallows nest is a little peace of heaven. The property is homely and comfortable. The owner lives next door and couldn’t be more helpful and friendly but not disturbing your holiday. The scenery of the surrounding countryside is beautiful. We would definitely go back again.

Mrs M,

Lovely property in a nice location. The cottage was very comfortable and felt home from home. Was very quiet and if you were a bird watcher there were lots of birds that came into the garden. Your very close to Stanton Moor which is great for a walk. I would definitely recommend this property.

Mr F,

A very satisfactory self catering holiday with excellent support from the owner Mr. A.Prince .

Mr Dennis P,

Lovely comfy clean well equipped cottage. TV too small to see comfortably .would definitely book again

Mr Chris G,

Been to swallows nest before lovely cottage owner lives on site and is very helpful.

Mr Mark S,

We loved Swallows Nest, clean, comfortable and in a super setting of a lovely village in beautiful countryside near to Chatsworth. We were made very welcome by owner Andrew, and had everything we needed. Simple things like a large fridge and freezer in the kitchen, a very comfortable bed and a shower that cleared the cold water before showering and garden views made the experience wonderful !

Mr Richard D,

Everything was first class, what more can I say but thanks for everything.

Mr Philip B,

Everything was first class what more can I say but thanks for everything.

Mr Philip B,

All the above together with a very hospitable host who made us feel at home from the moment we arrived.

Previous Customer,

Everything about the property was as described and reasonable value for money. Based on our experience Original Cottages would be our first port of call for future similar bookings. We'd also like to thank the owner and his son for going above and beyond in clearing a foot of snow on our part of the drive and path, which meant we were able to do most of the activities we had planned to do.

Mr Murray W,

Location

MATLOCK

Matlock used to be a thriving tourist destination in Victorian times when the railway reached the town and visitors used to come to take the ‘mild water cure’ in the many spa hotels. It still is very much on the tourist map being the ideal place from which to explore all the many local attractions but also a place that really ‘lives’ with independent shops, a couple of supermarkets and Dale Road with its numerous pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Set in a cauldron of hills, there are lots of days out to be had close by. Matlock Bath has got to be on your list. A 2-penny ride on a tram at the National Tramway Museum will take you back in time. Peak Rail’s trains steam up the valley to give you another taste of the past. And then of course you can explore Sir Richard Arkwright’s Industrial Revolution village at the head of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Corridor.

Matlock is in the centre of everything even when you look to the east towards Chesterfield because this opens up another vista of attractions. Chesterfield itself with its colourful market square is worth a visit. Hardwick Hall, of Bess of Hardwick fame, is not much further. How about storming Bolsover Castle’s battlements or being one of the ‘Merry Men’ in Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest.

Local pubs - The Thorn Tree, Twenty Ten Bar and the White Lion in Starkholmes.
